The purpose of this circular is to provide information on basic crime prevention techniques for increasing the security of children during Halloween in Los Angeles.
Abstract
Thirty-six suggestions are offered for increasing safety and security at Halloween. Among the suggestions are that children should never accept rides from strangers; homeowners should not leave their homes unattended; set a time limit for children to be out; children should never enter the home of a stranger; adults should escort children; children should only visit homes in their own neighborhoods and approach only the houses with a porch light on; replica firearms that could be mistaken for real firearms should be avoided; do not wear masks that restrict vision; children should always walk on sidewalks and not on streets; younger children may enjoy attending an adult-supervised Halloween party instead of going to houses to trick or treat; and children should never cross streets between parked cars, in the middle of blocks, or diagonally across intersections.
