THIS COMPUTERIZED POLICE INVESTIGATION AND MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM, DEVELOPED TO AID BUNCO-FORGERY INVESTIGATORS, STORES AND PROCESSES INFORMATION ABOUT FORGERIES AND OTHER CRIMES INVOLVING WORTHLESS DOCUMENTS.
Abstract
THIS SYSTEM, HAS THE CAPABILITY TO RECEIVE FORGERY REPORT INFORMATION FROM MANY USER AGENCIES, MATCH NEW CRIME REPORTS WITH THOSE ALREADY ON FILE, AND IDENTIFY ANY REPORTED DATA ITEMS COMMON TO TWO OR MORE CASES. IT MAINTAINS STATISTICS, KEEPS RECORDS AND UPDATES OF CASE STATUS, AND PRODUCES LISTS OF CASES WHOSE INVESTIGATIONS CAN BE EFFICIENTLY CONSOLIDATED. INFORMATION COLLECTED AND ANALYZED IN THIS STUDY WAS OBTAINED FROM DOCUMENTATION SUBMITTED BY THE LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT AND FROM ON-SITE INTERVIEWS AND OBSERVATIONS. THE AUTOMATED WORTHLESS DOCUMENT INDEX (AUDI) SYSTEM IS DISCUSSED WITH RESPECT TO EACH EXEMPLARY PROJECT SCREENING CRITERION, WITH PARTICULAR EMPHASIS BEING GIVEN TO PROJECT REPLICABILITY AND GOAL ACHIEVEMENT/ EFFECTIVENESS. RESEARCHERS CONCLUDED THAT AUDI SERVES AS A USEFUL TOOL IN IDENTIFYING CONNECTIONS BETWEEN PREVIOUSLY UNCORRELATED CASES, THAT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN AUDI'S IMMEDIATE OUTPUT AND THE LONG RANGE REDUCTION OF CRIME IS TENUOUS, AND THAT THE PROGRAM IS EXPANDABLE, ACCESSIBLE, AND HIGHLY REPLICABLE. NO SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATION WAS MADE AS TO THE SYSTEM'S ACCEPTANCE AS AN EXEMPLARY PROJECT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
