This report provides statistical data concerning the activities of the Los Angeles Police Department for the calendar year 2001.
Abstract
The first section offers general statistical data concerning the population characteristics, arrest rates and traffic rates, Part I crimes reported to the police, and comparisons for Part I crimes over a ten-year period. Section two details crimes and other investigations and includes data on homicides, forcible rapes and attempted rapes, aggravated assaults, robberies and attempted robberies, burglaries and attempted burglaries, larcenies and attempted larcenies, vehicle thefts and recoveries, Part II offenses, arsons, and law enforcement officers killed or assaulted while on duty. The third section offers information about adult arrests. Data are provided by location and type of offense; by month and type of offense; by age, sex, and type of offense; and by police jurisdiction. Juvenile arrest data comprise the fourth section of the report and are presented in the same manner as the adult arrest data. The fifth section details traffic accidents and enforcement issues, including traffic accidents by month and location, fatalities by month and location, property damage by month and location, and citations by police jurisdiction. Telephone calls to police and units dispatched comprises the sixth section. Separate tables are presented for incoming calls and for units dispatched by police jurisdiction. Data on police personnel and police equipment are offered in the seventh section of the report, including information on civilian personnel by location of assignment and job classification. Data on sworn personnel are presented by age, by years of service, by years in present rank, and by location of assignment. Training division curricula, personnel leave, work, overtime, and compensation policies are also presented. Several graphs are offered in the eighth section that detail monthly comparisons of selected crimes and percentages of arrests for all jurisdictions. The final section provides data on crimes and arrests from the Bureau of Criminal Statistics. All information contained in this report is presented in statistical format; there is no narrative summary.
