In this report, the State of Louisiana presents its prevention plan for the years 2000-2002 and the activities designed for building safe communities which aid in the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
Abstract
The Louisiana Children’s Trust Fund attempts to make a difference in providing needed support for families and children through community-based trust fund grants. Community-based programs, such as through churches, day-care, and Head Start centers, have stepped forward to take ownership and responsibility for the problems facing children and families. Families learn safety prevention and life skills, as well as how to make life safer for their community’s children and families. This report summarizes Louisiana’s child abuse and neglect prevention plan for the years of 2000-2002 under the Louisiana Children’s Trust Fund. The plan is intended as a tool for communities wanting to make a difference in the area of child abuse and neglect prevention. The plan is divided into eight sections: (1) an overview of the Children’s Trust Fund; (2) child abuse and neglect information and trends; (3) child abuse and neglect prevention; (4) Louisiana Children’s Trust Fund, funding priorities; (5) Louisiana Children’s Trust Fund, grant procedures; (6) statewide initiatives; (7) laws affecting children; and (8) helpful resources.
