THIS TECHNICAL REPORT PROVIDES TABLES AND AN ANALYSIS OF ACTUAL RAPES AND BURGLARIES IN 1978 BY STANDARD METROPOLITAN STATISTICAL AREAS (SMSAS) IN LOUISIANA AND FOR THE STATE AS A WHOLE.
Abstract
A TOTAL OF 955 RAPES WAS REPORTED IN 1978, A RATE OF 23.9 RAPES PER 100,000 POPULATION. OF ALL RAPES REPORTED, 81 PERCENT WERE IN THE SEVEN SMSAS, WHICH ACOUNTED FOR ONLY 63.4 PERCENT OF THE STATE'S POPULATION. ORLEANS, EAST BATON ROUGE, AND JEFFERSON PARISHES REPORTED 502 (52.6 PERCENT) RAPES. A TOTAL OF 421 ATTEMPTED RAPES WAS REPORTED IN 1978, A RATE OF 10.5 ATTEMPTED RAPES PER 100,000 POPULATION. A TOTAL OF 47,716 BURGLARIES WAS REPORTED IN 1978, A RATE OF 1,195.1 BUGLARIES PER 100,000 POPULATION. OF THE BURGLARIES REPORTED, 82 PERCENT WERE IN THE SEVEN SMSAS (63.4 PERCENT OF THE STATE'S POPULATION). ORLEANS, EAST BATON ROUGE, AND JEFFERSON PARISHES REPORTED 24,399 (51.1 PERCENT) BURGLARIES. A TOTAL OF 2,813 ATTEMPTED BURGLARIES WAS REPORTED IN 1978, A RATE OF 70.5 ATTEMPTED BURGLARIES PER 100,000 POPULATION. TABULAR AND GRAPHIC DATA ARE PROVIDED. (RCB)
