A DESCRIPTION OF THE DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JUVENILES SERVED AND INFORMATION ON THE PHASE I IN-HOUSE BEHAVIOR OF JUVENILES FOR THIS PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES JUVENILE SUPERVISION AND SHORT TERM GROUP HOME RESIDENCE.
Abstract
THIS PROGRAM WAS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO TWO GROUPS OF YOUTHFUL OFFENDERS: YOUTHS RELEASED FROM A DELINQUENT INSTITUTION, AND YOUTHS REFERRED BY THE COURT WHO DID NOT REQUIRE INSTITUTIONALIZATION BUT WHOSE COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT WAS TEMPORARILY UNDESIRABLE. THE PROGRAM CONSISTS OF TWO PHASES - RESIDENCE IN ONE OF SIX GROUP HOMES FOR A PERIOD OF UP TO TWO MONTHS, AND POSTRELEASE SUPERVISION OF THE YOUTH IN THE COMMUNITY FOR A PERIOD OF UP TO FOUR MONTHS. THE GOALS OF THE PROGRAM WERE TO REDUCE RECIDIVISM, SHORTEN THE LENGTH OF INSTITUTIONAL TREATMENT, DECREASE THE INSTITUTIONAL POPULATION, AND INCREASE THE SUCCESS RATE IN THE TREATMENT OF SOCIAL OFFENDERS. INFORMATION ON THE JUVENILES SERVED BY THE PROGRAM IS PRESENTED IN TABULAR FORM, AND INCLUDES SUCH FACTORS AS SEX, RACE, REASON REFERRED, PRIOR REFERRALS, AGE, WORK STATUS, STATUS IN PROGRAM, NUMBER OF TREATMENT OFFENSES, LENGTH OF STAY, OUTCOME, HOUSE BEHAVIOR, PROGNOSIS, AND REASON FOR RELEASE. APPENDED IS A DESCRIPTION OF THE METHODOLOGY USED FOR COMPUTATION OF SUCCESS-FAILURE PROJECTIONS.
