A STATISTICAL AND NARRATIVE REPORT CONTAINING INFORMATION ON REFERRALS TO THE COURT AND PROCESSES OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, DATA ON CHARACTERISTICS OF THE REFERRED JUVENILES, AND AN ANALYSIS OF JUVENILE COURT ACTIVITY.
Abstract
AMONG THE SPECIFIC TYPES OF DATA INCLUDED IN THIS REPORT ARE THE NUMBER OF JUVENILE REFERRALS FOR SUCH FACTORS AS RACE, SEX, YEAR, AND REASON REFERRED; SOURCES OF REFERRALS; ALTERNATIVE TO DETENTION REFERRALS BY TYPE OF OFFENSE, SEX, AND RACE; AND DISPOSITIONS OF JUVENILES REFFERRED. SUCH INDIVIDUAL CHARACTERISTICS AS AGE, SEX, RACE, LIVING ARRANGEMENT, NUMBER OF SIBLINGS, FAMILY INCOME, AND RECEIPT OF PUBLIC ASSISTANCE ARE REPORTED FOR THE REFFERRED JUVENILES. FIFTEEN PLANNING SERVICE COMMUNITIES WERE DELINEATED IN 1968 IN AN ATTEMPT TO PROVIDE LONG-TERM PLANNING AND SERVICE GOALS FOR THE METROPOLITAN SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT. THESE 15 COMMUNITIES ARE DESCRIBED IN TABULAR FORM AND AN INDIVIDUAL SUMMARY OF JUVENILE REFERRAL INFORMATION IS PROVIDED FOR EACH COMMUNITY.
