TO TEST THE VARIABLE OF COLOR RESPONSIVITY AS A PSYCHOLOGICAL VARIABLE OF PERSONALITY, THIS RESEARCH EXAMINED EXPERIMENTALLY THE LUESCHER COLOR TEST (LCT) AS AN AID IN THE DIAGNOSTIC PROCESS.
Abstract
ALTHOUGH EXTENSIVELY RESEARCHED IN EUROPE, THE LCT RECEIVED CONSIDERABLE SCIENTIFIC CRITICISM WITH THE TRANSLATION AND PUBLICATION OF ITS MANUAL IN THIS COUNTRY. BECAUSE OF THE EXTENSIVE HISTORY OF COLOR RESPONSIVITY AS A DIAGNOSTIC VARIABLE IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY, THE ABILITY OF THE LCT TO DISCRIMINATE BETWEEN TWO BEHAVIORALLY DIVERGENT GROUPS WAS INVESTIGATED. THE LCT WAS ADMINISTERED UNDER STANDARD INSTRUCTIONS TO 329 NORMAL MALE CIVILIANS AND 286 INCARCERATED MALE CRIMINALS. SEVEN HYPOTHESES AND THEIR ASSOCIATED MEASURES DERIVED FROM LUESCHER COLOR THEORY WERE EXAMINED WITH RESPECT TO THE PERFORMANCES OF THESE CRITERION GROUPS. SIX OF SEVEN HYPOTHESES WERE IN THE PREDICTED DIRECTION. THE MEANINGFUL AND ORDERLY RESULTS OBTAINED WERE ACCEPTED TO SUPPORT FURTHER LUESCHER COLOR THEORY AND THE LCT. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT NORMAL MALE CIVILIANS AND INCARCERATED MALE CRIMINALS CLEARLY DIFFERED IN THEIR COLOR PREFERENCES ON THE LCT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)...DMC
