DISCUSSION OF THE CRITERIA USED TO EVALUATE THE FEASIBILITY OF THE PROPOSED CORRECTIONAL AREA CONCEPT FOR AN IMPROVED STATE CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM.
Abstract
DATA WERE GATHERED ON THE PRESENT AND PROJECTED POPULATION, NUMBER AND TYPE OF OFFENSES, JUDICIAL PRACTICES, STATE AND COUNTY CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES, GENERAL STAFFING NEEDS, ETC. ALSO INVESTIGATED WAS THE PRESENT INVOLVEMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN CORRECTIONS AND THE AVAILABLE COMMUNITY RESOURCES. THE METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION AND FINDINGS IN EACH AREA ARE DISCUSSED INDIVIDUALLY. ABSTRACTS OF STATE AND LOCAL CORRECTION STUDIES REVIEWED FOR THIS STUDY ARE INCLUDED IN THIS REPORT ALONG WITH A LIST OF THE STUDIES AND BACKGROUND MATERIALS SPECIFICALLY RELATING TO MAINE AND A LIST OF GENERAL CORRECTIONAL STUDIES REVIEWED. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS FLOOR PLANS OF FACILITIES IN EACH OF THE THREE PROPOSED CORRECTIONAL AREAS. TABLES AND CHARTS OF DATA COLLECTED DURING THE STUDY IS ALSO INCLUDED.
