The results of Maine's 1977 county jail inspections are presented for each of the State's counties.
Abstract
Jail inspection reports are given for 14 counties. The reports present information on the number of inmates and staff; on the number of inmate suicides, deaths, and escapes; on the average overnight population; and on administrative procedures, such as rules for jail personnel. Brief remarks are also noted in each report about the jail's sanitation, food service, custody and security, adult and juvenile facilities, inmate control and discipline, medical and health services, and inmate activities and programs. Other results concern the jail's physical plant (the condition of the burner, the electrical system, and fire prevention mechanisms), work release programs (if any), and future plans.
