Abstract
THE METHODS AND GOALS OF THE HEROIN MAINTENANCE PROGRAM AS USED IN ENGLAND AND THE METHADONE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM AS USED IN THIS COUNTRY ARE CONTRASTED. THE CRITERIA FOR ACCEPTANCE IS A PATIENT AND SOME OF THE SOCIAL ISSUES GENERATED BY THE MAINTENANCE APPROACHES ARE EXAMINED.
