SUMMARY OF THE EXTENT OF THE GOVERNMENT'S INVOLVEMENT IN CRIME REDUCTION AND THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL ISSUES AND PROBLEMS ARISING FROM THE OPERATION OF THE ACT.
Abstract
THE SAFE STREETS ACT IS A COMPREHENSIVE GRANT-IN-AID PROGRAM FOR ASSISTING STATE AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE ADMINISTRATION EFFORTS. THE COMMISSION RECOMMENDED SEVERAL AMENDMENTS TO THE ACT, INCLUDING ONE PROVIDING THAT NO STATE PLAN WOULD BE APPROVED UNLESS LEAA FOUND THAT THE PLAN PROVIDED FOR THE ALLOCATION OF AN ADEQUATE SHARE OF ASSISTANCE FOR HIGH CRIME AREAS.
