This article examines Year 2000 compliance for both hardware and software within the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).
Abstract
CSC institutions co-exist with the communities in which they are located and have frequently helped out in emergency situations. A CSC committee on risk management is working with communities and with Emergency Preparedness Canada to ensure measures are in place to cope if vital services should be disrupted because of the millennium "bug." All CSC computers will work from the same operating language, use the same programs and have the same methods of communicating with each other. No matter what happens with computer chips at 12:00 a.m., January 1, 2000, the Correctional Service must be prepared to provide services to the public, and maintain security and basic needs for inmates in more than 50 institutions.
