THIS REPORT PRESENTS KEY WORKLOAD AND PERFORMANCE STATISTICS FOR EACH UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS AND EACH DISTRICT COURT FOR FISCAL YEARS 1969 THROUGH 1974.
Abstract
EACH PAGE CONTAINS A 'STATISTICAL PROFILE' FOR A SINGLE COURT AND REVEALS SUCH THINGS AS TOTAL WORKLOAD IN TERMS OF CASES FILED, TERMINATED, AND PENDING, THE RATE OF INCREASE IN NEW FILINGS OVER RECENT YEARS, AND THE WORKLOAD VERSUS JUDGE POWER RATIO AND HOW IT COMPARES WITH PRIOR YEARS AND OTHER COURTS. INFORMATION IS ALSO PROVIDED FOR EACH COURT ON COURT MANAGEMENT PROBLEMS SUCH AS JUROR UTILIZATION AND COURT DELAY, THE SIZE OF 'OLD CASE' INVENTORIES. THE MEDIAN TIME IT TAKES TO DISPOSE OF CASES, THE COURT'S DISPOSITION RATE AND HOW IT MEASURES UP TO NATIONAL NORMS, AND THE COURT'S NUMERICAL STANDING WITH RESPECT TO EACH WORKLOAD OR PERFORMANCE INDEX. WHEREVER APPROPRIATE, WORKLOAD FIGURES ARE IN 'PER JUDGESHIP' TERMS OBTAINED BY DIVIDING THE COURT'S TOTAL CASELOAD FIGURES BY ITS AUTHORIZED JUDGESHIPS. JUDICIARY-WIDE CASELOAD AND PERFORMANCE AVERAGES FOR DISTRICT COURTS AND A SIMILAR NATIONAL PROFILE FOR COURTS OF APPEALS ARE ALSO PROVIDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
