Abstract
THE SUPPORT AND SYMPATHY OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC MUST BE ENLISTED IF THE CORRECTIONAL FIELD IS TO RECEIVE THE FINANCIAL BACKING AND MANPOWER REQUIRED FOR SUCCESSFUL REHABILITATION. THE PRESS IS CRITICIZED FOR FAILING TO DEVELOP A PUBLIC AWARENESS OF SUCCESSES IN CORRECTIONS. PROBLEMS IN GATHERING RELEVANT DATA ON RECREATION MANPOWER IN CORRECTIONS ARE NOTED. FROM THE LIMITED INFORMATION AVAILABLE, A DECREASE IN THE EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENTIAL LEVELS OF THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR RECREATION SERVICES IS INDICATED, IN SPITE OF MANY NEW COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY CURRICULA TYING TOGETHER THE DISCIPLINES OF RECREATION AND CORRECTIONS.
