The purpose of this manual is to help lawyers and judges in the management of complex litigation; complex litigation is usually regarded as that which involves multiple parties in numerous related cases or large numbers of witnesses, documents, and extensive discovery.
Abstract
Following the introductory section, the manual discusses basic principles of effective management of complex litigation as well as various procedures for their implementation as the litigation moves through the pretrial phase and to summary disposition, settlement, or trial. Another section discusses the application of management techniques and procedures to particular types of complex civil and criminal litigation, including class actions, multiple litigation, antitrust cases, mass torts, securities, employment discrimination, patent, and civil racketeering (RICO).
