THE COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION FOR CORRECTIONS HAS ISSUED THESE 208 STANDARDS TO GUIDE ADMINISTRATORS OF PROBATION AND PAROLE SERVICES WHICH ARE PRIMARILY CONCERNED WITH SUPERVISING ADULT OFFENDERS.
Abstract
THE GUIDELINES SPONSORED BY THE AMERICAN CORRECTIONAL ASSOCIATION CONCERN: ADMINISTRATION, ORGANIZATION, AND MANAGEMENT WITH EMPHASIS ON WRITTEN POLICY STATEMENTS AND COOPERATION WITH OTHER CORRECTIONAL AGENCIES; STAFF TRAINING; ACTIVE SOLICITATION OF CITIZEN PARTICIPATION, INCLUDING GUIDELINES FOR DEALING WITH VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS; SOUND FISCAL MANAGEMENT; HANDLING CASE RECORDS WITH EMPHASIS ON CONFIDENTIALITY; THE ESTABLISHMENT OF MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS; GUIDELINES FOR RESEARCH PROJECT; AND THE NEED FO PERSONAL SUPERVISION SERVICES FOR THE OFFENDER 24 HOURS A DAY. THE PROBATION AND PAROLE SYSTEM IS TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC WHILE GIVING THE OFFENDER A CHANCE TO ESTABLISH A REHABILITATED LIFESTYLE. THIS CANNOT BE DONE BY HAVING DAYTIME-ONLY SERVICES. GUIDELINES FOR REVIEWING CASES REVOKING PAROLE, AND DEALING WITH SPECIAL PROBLEMS ARE GIVEN. APPENDIXES GIVEN THE ARTICLES OF INCORPORATION OF COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION FOR CORRECTIONS, INC., AND THE CODE OF ETHICS OF THE AMERICAN CORRECTIONAL ASSOCIATION. A GLOSSARY OF TERMS IS INCLUDED.
