This article discusses modern technology and design in police uniforms.
Abstract
Manufacturers are listening to what officers have to say about uniform design and making more wear-, fit-, comfort- and movement-friendly attire that satisfies the need for a consistent, professional look while providing for the needs of police officers. Discussions include: boots with fibers that create an impenetrable shield; fabrics that breathe well, are wash and wear, pathogen resistant, and/or are treated with a fire-resistant chemical; uniforms that truly fit and accommodate everyday police equipment; uniforms that have built-in tourniquets for SWAT and hostage rescue team type ops; undergarments, waterproofing, bullet proof vest systems for both uniformed and undercover officers; and versions of all of the above for female officers.
