A summary of the first 2 years of the Marandu Project on drug abuse investigation and prevention in Paraguay is presented, including a short summary on drug definitions and drug use in Paraguay and five other Latin American countries and review of Paraguayan drug laws.
Abstract
The Marandu Project was established to instill a national desire against drug abuse and for drug abuse prevention, to obtain a realistic picture of drug abuse in Paraguay, and to develop a national consciousness on drug abuse. Organizations involved included Paraguayan government, private, and national as well as international concerns. Full text is included of a school education drug prevention program, a comprehensive report on Paraguayan general health and drug use, a year-by-year summary of Marandu project results, complete descriptions of project- associated organizations, and an outline of project events during the 2 years. Drug use and abuse are summarized for Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia. 19 references
