This report highlights the activities and accomplishments of the Adult Probation Department of the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona during 1978.
Abstract
The report briefly reviews the county's probation system and describes the organization of the probation department. The activities of the department's divisions are then detailed, with attention to staff development, volunteer services, employment services for probationers, special probation programs, presentence investigations, and probation terminations. During 1978, the data indicated a trend toward presentence investigations of complicated cases; probation staff indicated a steady increase in investigation workload, particularly in the area of white-collar crime. A total of 3,364 presentence reports were prepared during 1978 for an average of over 300 reports per month. A total of 498 probationers were ordered into the department's employment services. Appendixes include statistical tables and a form stating the terms and conditions of probation. Photographs and an organizational chart are supplied.
