The activities and achievements of the Adult Probation Department of the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona are reported for 1980.
Abstract
A discussion of the adult probation system in Maricopa County and on decentralization in probation field services is provided. The components of the probation department are described, with attention to caseload management, volunteer services, records management, and the probation population. The report indicates that presentence reports prepared for the court increased 18.2 percent from 3,976 in 1979 to 4,701 in 1980 and that the total number of individuals supervised increased from 7,733 to 8,897. As a result of this growth, the average caseload now stands at 107 per officer assigned to supervision. Management's major emphasis during 1980 was to deal with the caseload growth, while practicing cutback management. Other highlights of the department's activities during the year are presented. An organizational chart, tabular data, and a few photographs are included. (Author summary modified)
