This article examines new challenges for commerce and new opportunities for security providers in today's global markets.
Abstract
Information security is the number one business concern in industrialized nations, with insider fraud and other forms of white collar crime a close second. These problems have been exacerbated by business practices such as downsizing and the move toward a less hierarchical management model that have reduced worker loyalty while cutting many internal controls, a potentially deadly combination. Companies throughout the world are beginning to take risk management seriously, and the heightened focus on security at the senior management level is being translated into action. The article reviews the security concerns, including links to criminal elements, and the attempts to deal with them in Western Countries, Asia, Central/Eastern Europe and Russia, and Latin America. The lack of and need for due diligence was a recurring theme among consultants and analysts who help multinational companies do business around the globe.
