THE 1979 ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE PATUXENT INSTITUTION IN JESSUP, MD., CONTAINS A DESCRIPTION OF THE INMATE POPULATION AND TREATMENT PROGRAMS, FISCAL REPORTS, AND STATISTICAL REPORTS (INMATE STATISTICS).
Abstract
THE INSTITUTION FUNCTIONS AS PART OF THE MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND CORRECTIONAL SERVICES. ESTIMATED WORTH OF THE PHYSICAL PLANT EXCEEDS $10.5 MILLION, AND 383 STAFF POSITIONS ARE FILLED. A DESCRIPTION OF FACILITY OPERATIONS ENCOMPASSES THE DIAGNOSTIC PROCESS, TREATMENT, PREPAROLE AND PAROLE, AND RESEARCH. THE INSTITUTION PROVIDES EACH INMATE WITH AN INTEGRATED, COORDINATED PROGRAM CONSISTING OF GROUP AND/OR INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY, AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM GEARED TO INDVIDUAL NEEDS, A VOCATIONAL PROGRAM, AND A TOTAL THERAPEUTIC MILIEU WHICH INCLUDES THE GRADED TIER SYSTEM AND THE UNIT TREATMENT CONCEPT. FISCAL REPORTS FOCUS ON OPERATING AND PER CAPITA COSTS AND THE GENERAL FUND BALANCE SHEET. STATISTICAL REPORTS PROVIDE INFORMATION ON ADMISSION AGE, SENTENCE LENGTH, OFFENSE, JURISDICTION, RACE, AND INTELLIGENCE LEVEL. ACTIVITIES OF THE INSTITUTIONAL BOARD OF REVIEW ARE NOTED IN TABULAR FORM. (DEP)
