Abstract
THE TRAINING AIDS NEEDED AND THE INSTRUCTOR PREPARATION NEEDED FOR THE CONDUCT OF TRAINING AND THE REVIEW OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS ARE INDICATED. IN THE FORMAT, EACH STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO DEMONSTRATE MANUAL CONTROL OF THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL, TO BE REVIEWED AND CRITIQUED BY THE INSTRUCTOR AND CLASS. WITH TRAFFIC LIGHT OFF, THE INSTRUCTOR DEMONSTRATES TRAFFIC DIRECTION CONTROL USING SIGNALS AND GESTURES, SUPPLEMENTED WITH A WHISTLE. EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON APPEARANCE AND BEARING; STOPPING AND STARTING TRAFFIC; SIGNALS FOR RIGHT AND LEFT TURNS; USE OF THE WHISTLE; CROSSING PEDESTRIANS; AND CHANGING TRAFFIC FLOW. EACH TRAINEE IS REQUIRED TO CONDUCT TRAFFIC CONTROL DIRECTION WITH ACTIONS BEING REVIEWED BY INSTRUCTOR AND CLASS. THE PERFORMANCE CHECKLIST, A SAMPLE OF WHICH IS INCLUDED, EVALUATES THE TRAINEE'S ABILITY TO APPLY TRAFFIC DIRECTION AND CONTROL IN A FIELD TRAINING OR SIMULATED ENVIRONMENT. IT IS INDICATED TO BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE INSTRUCTOR TO PROVIDE A REALISTIC ENVIRONMENT FOR SUCH PERFORMANCE EVALUATION. (RCB)
