DESCRIPTION AND EVALUATION OF A PROGRAM DESIGNED TO IMPROVE POST-RELEASE SUCCESS BY PROVIDING ACCESS TO JOB PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE FOR PRISONERS ANTICIPATING RELEASE.
Abstract
THE CHARACTERISTICS AND GENERAL BACKGROUND OF MARYLAND EX-OFFENDERS USING THE PLACEMENT SERVICE ARE OUTLINED. ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE PROGRAM ARE EXAMINED IN TERMS OF THE NUMBER OF PLACEMENTS, WAGES EARNED, AND THE SIX MONTH FOLLOW-UP STATUS OF THE EMPLOYEE. AN ANALYSIS OF THE DATA GATHERED IS PRESENTED. A DISCUSSION OF THE COST EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PROGRAM'S SECOND YEAR OF OPERATION INCLUDES A COMPARISON OF COSTS BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND YEARS OF THE PLACEMENT PROGRAM.
