This looseleaf manual is designed to assist the judges, masters, examiners, auditors, and other judicial appointees in Maryland to understand the ethical rules and standards that apply to the performance of their official duties as well as other activities.
Abstract
The guidelines reflect the Code of Judicial Conduct that took effect on July 1, 1987. Individual sections focus on the integrity and independence of the judiciary, avoidance of impropriety and the appearance of impropriety, impartiality, extra-judicial activities, and political activities. Other sections explain similar requirements for judicial appointees and financial disclosure requirements for judges and judicial appointees. The manual also presents the texts of 119 opinions issued by the judicial ethics committee on such subjects as financial reporting, services to charitable and educational organizations, attendance at a testimonial dinner, ownership and management of real estate, political activities, and provision of legal services to organizations.
