THIS TRAINING MANUAL ON ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT ISSUES IS DESIGNED FOR USE IN INHOUSE TRAINING SESSIONS FOR IMPROVING SKILLS OF ADMINISTRATORS OF PRIVATE, NONPROFIT, COMMUNITY-BASED JUVENILE JUSTICE PROGRAMS.
Abstract
IT IS ONE OF FIVE SELF-CONTAINED MODULES WHICH TOGETHER PROVIDE A MODEL TRAINING CURRICULUM AND RESOURCE MATERIALS FOR MANAGEMENT TRAINING. PREPARING TRAINING SESSIONS SHOULD BEGIN WITH NEEDS ASSESSMENT, SETTING PRIORITIES AMONG TOPICS, SCHEDULING AND PREPARING THE SESSIONS, AND PLANNING A TRAINING PROGRAM EVALUATION. KEY TOPICS TO BE COVERED IN ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT TRAINING ARE MANAGEMENT BY OBJECTIVES (MBO), ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND DECISIONMAKING AND PROBLEMSOLVING. IN A 7 WEEK SEQUENCE, 5 WEEKS SHOULD FOCUS ON MBO, AND 1 WEEK EACH SHOULD BE DEVOTED TO THE OTHER TWO TOPICS. DISCUSSION OF EACH TOPIC INCLUDES A TRAINING PLAN CONSISTING OF A TIMETABLE, TRAINING GUIDE, HANDOUTS, A NARRATIVE, AND A BIBLIOGRAPHY.
