STATISTICAL INFORMATION ON PERSONS WHO WERE SENTENCED TO DIE IN THE ELECTRIC CHAIR FROM 1898 THROUGH 1971.
Abstract
THE BACKGROUNDS OF THE SEVENTEEN MEN WHO ARE CURRENTLY WAITING FOR EXECUTION WERE PROFILED, AND COMPARED TO A GROUP OF MURDERERS SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT. THE RECIDIVISM RATE OF CONVICTED MURDERERS WAS FOUND TO BE LOWER THAN THAT OF THE GENERAL INMATE POPULATION. DATA WERE PROVIDED ON SUPERVISORY PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE COSTS IN DEATH ROW FACILITIES.
