Abstract
The first paper explores developments in the treatment and rehabilitation of offenders in Hong Kong. The second paper looks at sentencing and early release procedures in Canada and that country's goal of reducing the use of incarceration. Subsequent papers consider effective treatment for drug abusers, correctional research trends, standard minimum rules for prisoners in Sri Lanka, and problems associated with institutional treatment in Pakistan. Other papers focus on the treatment of special offender categories in Hong Kong, Hungary's correctional system, criminal procedures in Malaysia, and problems in the treatment of offenders in Singapore. Finally, papers address United Nations standard minimum rules for the treatment of prisoners, inmate rights, prison overcrowding, police-community relations in crime prevention, and the need for additional research on incarceration.
