This pamphlet provides information that individuals need in order to make responsible decisions about their use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs based on risks associated with their use, with attention to pertinent Minnesota and Federal law.
Abstract
The drugs examined are alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, cocaine/crack, marijuana, and steroids. Inhalants are also included in the analysis, although those most abused are not drugs, but rather toxic chemicals found in common household and industrial products. The information provided on each of these substances includes facts about how it acts on the human body, possible signs of use/abuse, and possible health risks of the substance's use/abuse. Health risks are also presented by the following drug categories: depressants, hallucinogens, narcotics, and stimulants. Regarding the legal parameters for the sale, possession, and use of various substances, a chart shows the degrees of selected drug crimes in Minnesota and the sentencing limits for each degree. A chart also shows Federal penalties for controlled substances violations, including the manufacture, distribution, and possession with intent to manufacture or distribute controlled substances. 13 listings of resource materials
