This coloring book for young children presents drawings and safety messages from McGruff to teach young children how to avoid becoming a crime victim and what to do if a problem occurs.
Abstract
The drawings, poems, and messages explain the safety value of being with friends, the need to say 'no' and get away from strangers offering gifts or asking help in finding something, and the desirability of asking a police officer for help if lost. Getting home before dark, avoiding playing with matches, refusing offers of alcohol or other drugs, and telling a teacher or other adult if touched inappropriately are also covered. Readers are also advised to call parents or emergency telephone numbers if a problem occurs when home alone, to use a safe route to school, and be aware of safety at all times.
