This compendium provides researchers, prevention specialists, and health educators with tools to measure a range of bullying experiences: bully perpetration, bully victimization, bully-victim experiences, and bystander experiences.
Abstract
The compendium intends to be a starting point from which researchers can consider a set of psychometrically sound measures for assessing the self-reported incidence and prevalence of a variety of bullying experiences of adolescents and young adults. The compendium contains 33 measures that were selected from a review of the most salient literature on bullying victimization and perpetration, as well as bystander experiences. The measures assist researchers and practitioners make informed decisions in choosing measures to use in their work. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not endorse any particular scale presented, and the listing of available resources is not exhaustive. For each measure, the compendium provides measure items, response categories, scoring instructions, and the information provided to respondents at the beginning of the measure. Since the development of measures that are psychometrically sound and free of bias may be impossible, the compendium provides criteria to use in choosing among the measures. 69 references and appended additional measures and a scale index
