GOALS, METHODS, AND EVALUATION OF THE PROGRAM, SUBMITTED TO LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION UNDER THE REQUIREMENTS OF A GRANT.
Abstract
THE PROGRAM CONSISTED OF THREE MAJOR COMPONENTS - DRUG EDUCATION, LAW ENFORCEMENT, AND ADMINISTRATIVE. THE DRUG EDUCATION COMPONENT INTENDED TO MOUNT PROGRAMS THAT WOULD PREVENT OR ALTER PSYCHOLOGICAL STATES AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS CONDUCIVE TO DRUG USE. PARENT EFFECTIVENESS TRAINING COURSES, CONTACT WITH SCHOOL STAFFS, RAP GROUPS, COUNSELING, CREATIVE RECREATIONAL CLASSES, FILMS, AND CLASSES WERE SOME OF THE METHODS EMPLOYED. THIS COMPONENT ALSO INCLUDED THE DEVELOPMENT OF FILMS, PUBLICATIONS, VOLUNTEERS, AND A SPEAKER'S BUREAU. THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMPONENT SOUGHT TO REDUCE THE SUPPLY OF DRUGS IN THE COUNTY AND APPREHEND HIGH LEVEL SUPPLIERS. THIS WAS ATTEMPTED THROUGH AN INCREASE IN MANPOWER AND MORE FUNDS FOR BUYING DRUGS IN UNDERCOVER WORK. THE ADMINISTRATIVE COMPONENT INCLUDED PROGRAM AND BUDGET MONITORING. MEASURABLE SUCCESS IS REPORTED IN ALL AREAS.
