This article offers 10 practical suggestions for use by police officers in interacting with newspapers, television, or other mass media.
Abstract
Police officers should assume that they are being photographed, even if they cannot see a camera. They should notify their supervisors if they believe that something negative has been photographed. They should also make some response to questions rather than making no comment. If they cannot or will not give information, they should explain why. They should also be willing to say that they do not know a particular piece of information. In addition, they should never lie to the press, should give the media the same access as the public, and be aware of news deadlines. Additional suggestions and explanations and photographs
