This report recommends strategies to educate the public about community policing in Montgomery County (Md.).
Abstract
The first phase of this project will be to release a visual representation of the new community policing logo and slogan to the media by a combination of police and political leaders. The release of the logo and slogan will be followed with a timely introduction and education period for Montgomery County citizens regarding the community policing commitment. This effort will reach neighborhood watch groups, citizen associations, community organizations, ethnic organizations, and religious organizations. Follow-up strategies will include open forums after PTA meetings in local schools, followup calls by supervisors to measure the quality of police services provided, and developing a pamphlet on procedures for citizen complaints and commendations.
