Abstract
Fourteen smoke-free jails are listed, and 20 jails have smoking restrictions. Restrictions are listed for each jail. Some of the restrictions are no smoking in infirmary and in corridors during transport; staff smoking only in designated areas; no smoking in meeting or dining areas; smoking limited to housing areas, dayrooms, and outdoor recreational areas; no smoking in living units; and no smoking in kitchens, holdover area, and transport vehicles. Three jails are currently developing policies (Dade County, Florida; New York City; and Tarrant County, Texas), and three jails do not have smoking restrictions (San Bernardino, California; Fulton County, Georgia; and Harris County, Texas).
