PARTICIPATING OFFICERS WERE PLEASED WITH THE COURSE, AS INDICATED BY A FOLLOW-UP SURVEY. THE COURSE INCREASED THE OFFICERS' KNOWLEDGE OF REFERRAL ALTERNATIVES (WITH A RESULTANT INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF REFERRALS) AND REDUCED SOME OF THE PROBLEMS BETWEEN POLICE AND MENTAL HEALTH AGENCIES (SUCH AS THE FRUSTRATION FELT BY THE POLICE WHEN THEIR REFERRALS ARE REJECTED BUT THE POLICE ARE GIVEN NO REASON FOR THE REJECTION.)
