Three interrelated studies are in progress to summarize what is known about the efficacy of driving under the influence (DUI) remedial intervention strategies and to develop methods to use the results of the summary for planning and evaluating future studies: a study of critical constructs for DUI intervention success, a study of the methodological adequacy of evaluation studies, and a meta-analysis.
Abstract
The meta-analysis will evaluate the effectiveness of remedial countermeasures such as education, treatment, rehabilitation, or active probation with DUI offenders. Three sub-studies -- a literature search, a critical constructs analysis, and a methodology evaluation -- form the basis for the final meta-analysis. A comprehensive multiple-methods search strategy is being used to identify both unpublished as well as published studies. Extensive data on each study are being coded to allow examination of the relationship between factors such as experimental design quality and effect size. 1 figure and 54 references (Author abstract modified)
