Abstract
Methamphetamine is a highly addictive and extremely toxic street drug. Its use affects the addict, their children, and the community. Children living in homes where drugs are used, sold, or manufactured are at great risk for physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department in Wisconsin with the support of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) developed this DVD to promote awareness and educate the community on methamphetamine use and production. The DVD consists of four components. The first presents an overview of the need for the Drug Endangered Children (DEC) program, who the DEC team members are, and their roles. The second component is a public service announcement, in the form of a music video, depicting two drug endangered children scenarios. The third component of the DVD is a documentary examining the cycle of methamphetamine use which includes: physical damage, psychological effects, the crash, the obsession, criminal damage, making methamphetamine, the victims of methamphetamine use-the children, what to look for in a methamphetamine user, and how to get help for the addiction. The fourth and final component consists of three public service announcements on methamphetamine awareness and includes: Meth: Learn by Example, Meth or Death, and Meth: Be Aware of Labs.
