Abstract
THE SECTION ON SYSTEMS EXAMINES THE OPERATIONS OF MICROPHONES, AUDIO AMPLIFIERS, MAGNETIC SOUND RECORDERS, TELEPHONE SYSTEMS, AND RADIO TRANSMITTERS AND RECEIVERS. THE OPERATIONS SECTION PRESENTS THE SPECIFIC UTILIZATION OF ELECTRONIC AUDIO SURVEILLANCE TECHNIQUES IN INVESTIGATIVE OPERATIONS. THE PART ON EVALUATIONS TREATS THE LEGAL AND REGULATORY BACKGROUND OF AUDIO SURVEILLANCE FROM THE STANDPOINT OF THE FOURTH AMENDMENT. ALSO EXAMINED ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF FAILURE IN THE EXERCISE OF ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROLS BY LAW ENFORCEMENT EXECUTIVES IN EMPLOYING ELECTRONIC AUDIO SURVEILLANCE TECHNIQUES. (AUTHOR)
