This annual evaluation of the Metro-Dade Police Department's (Florida) community policing, crime prevention, and juvenile programs encompasses 57 such programs.
Abstract
One page is devoted to each program and consists of the program title, a program description, a brief evaluation that includes recommendations for change, and the "user" agency that coordinates the program. The programs are presented alphabetically by title. They include such programs as Adopt-a- Family, which provides Christmas gifts for foster children; the Blue Lightning Strike Force, which consists of 170 Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies throughout the State dedicated to combating drug smuggling in the Southeast; the Burglary Survey Program, in which a community service officer contacts burglary victims and offers them a security survey; and the Bus Surveillance and Safety Team, which uses four uniformed officers to follow specific buses throughout their routes in response to increasing crime on the Metro-Dade Transit Agency buses. Other programs evaluated are the Citizens' Crime Watch, a program to combat auto theft, the D.A.R.E. After School Program, the Graffiti Pilot Program, a gang prevention program, Operation Truancy, and the Tourist-Oriented Police Program.
