AN OAKLAND, CALIF., PROGRAM PROVIDING SHELTER CARE AND OUTREACH COUNSELING FOR MALE YOUTHS REFERRED BY THE FAMILY CRISIS UNIT OF THE ALAMEDA COUNTY PROBATION DEPARTMENT AND BY OTHER COMMUNITY AGENCIES IS EVALUATED.
Abstract
THE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROJECT SERVES RUNAWAYS AND ABANDONED OR TROUBLED YOUTHS, PROVIDING TEMPORARY ROOM AND BOARD PLUS INDIVIDUAL, GROUP, AND FAMILY COUNSELING, EMERGENCY MEDICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES, TUTORING, AND RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS. THE PROJECT ALSO PROVIDES OUTREACH COUNSELING FOR FORMER SHELTER RESIDENTS AND OTHER YOUTHS. THE PURPOSE OF THE EVALUATION WAS TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE PROJECT SHOULD CONTINUE TO RECEIVE REVENUE-SHARING FUNDS. THE EVALUATION REPORT DESCRIBES THE PROJECT'S HISTORY, ADMINISTRATIVE, FISCAL, CONTROL, AND ACCOUNTING PROCEDURES. THE REPORT CONCLUDED THAT THE PROJECT RECEIVE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE IN CERTAIN AREAS, INCLUDING THE FLOW OF INFORMATION ON CLIENTS FROM OTHER AGENCIES AT INTAKE, AND THE PLANNING OF GROUP COUNSELING SERVICES IN THE OUTREACH COMPONENT. DETAILS OF EVALUATION METHODS AND FINDINGS ARE PROVIDED, TOGETHER WITH SUPPORTING DATA.
