THE COMMISSION IS TO DETERMINE WHETHER MICHIGAN IS USING THE BEST KNOWN METHODS OF CRIME PREVENTION, APPREHENSION AND CORRECTIONAL TREATMENT.
Abstract
SOME PRESSING PROBLEMS OF CRIME CONTROL HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED. THE PRESIDENTIAL REPORT - THE CHALLENGE OF CRIME IN A FREE SOCIETY - WAS EXAMINED AND TENTATIVE JUDGMENTS AS TO APPLICABILITY OF THE CIRCA 2000 RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE MICHIGAN SITUATION WERE STUDIED. INNOVATIVE LOCAL PROGRAMS WHICH OFFER PROMISE FOR CRIME PREVENTION AND SEEM ADAPTABLE TO OTHER COMMUNITIES WERE NOTED. THE COMMISSION MADE VERY SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LEGISLATIVE ENACTMENT.
