Statistics on Michigan's correctional system for 1979 are presented.
Abstract
Introductory sections focus on important prison issues in 1979 and on the organization of the Department of Corrections. A section on court dispositions provides data on dispositions by district and type and a 6-year comparison chart. Prison commitments by age, sex, race, minimum term, and crime area are included in another section. One focusing on prisoners and prisons includes a facilities summary, prison population figures, GED (general educational development) testing data, descriptions of institutions, health care information, and inmate employment statistics. A parole section provides data on paroles and continuances and information from followup studies of first paroles for 1974 and 1975. A review of community programs covers program movements and changes, financial data, and resident statistics. Other sections are concerned with general finances and personnel data. Maps, charts, and tables are included.
