This manual extracts the most commonly used traffic laws in Michigan and describes procedures by which they are enforced.
Abstract
The laws are written as potential charges that police officers may find appropriate to use verbatim in citing motorists. Following each offense or charge, a heading entitled "proof" spells out elements that must be present to make the offense complete. The manual also identifies exceptions to advise police officers of circumstances under which a particular charge may not be appropriate. Interspersed throughout the manual are comments and notes to inform police officers of common practices, ambiguities, and pitfalls in traffic law enforcement and of unusual constructions related to various traffic offenses. The first part of the manual covers arrest, implied consent, abandoned vehicles, vehicle inspection, authorized emergency vehicles, and bonds. The second part of the manual focuses on Michigan traffic laws, including moving violations, alcohol and drug offenses, other dangerous offenses, speed, driving license and vehicle registration regulations, traffic signs and signals, accident-related offenses, equipment, and parking. An index and a glossary of terms are included.
