Abstract
THE PROGRAM, DESIGNED BY THE INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS CENTER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO, HAS PARTICIPATING COMMAND OFFICERS FROM ILLINOIS, IOWA, MINNESOTA, AND WISCONSIN. IN LECTURE AND SEMINAR SESSIONS THE PARTICIPANTS ARE GUIDED THROUGH A FOUR-PHASE EVOLUTION OF LEARNING. PHASES I AND II, REPORTED ON HERE, RESPECTIVELY CONCENTRATE ON AWARENESS OF INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL PATTERNS OF BEHAVIOR AND APPROACHES TO DECISION MAKING, AND ANALYSIS OF BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS AND DECISION-MAKING TECHNIQUES. AN ORGANIZATION SURVEY TO IDENTIFY THE ATTITUDES OF THE TOTAL SWORN FORCES TOWARD THEIR WORK AND WORK ENVIRONMENT WAS CONDUCTED PRIOR TO PHASE I. RESULTS OF THIS SURVEY BECAME THE BASIS FOR PHASE I AWARENESS TRAINING. THE WEEK-LONG TRAINING PHASES ARE SCHEDULED AT INTERVALS OF SEVERAL MONTHS TO PERMIT ON-THE-JOB APPLICATION OF THE CONCEPTS LEARNED. THE SPECIFIC CONTENT OF THE TRAINING PHASES AND REPRESENTATIVE REACTIONS TO THE PROGRAM ARE PRESENTED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
