REVIEW OF PROBLEMS INHERENT IN A TRACKING SYSTEM, FOCUSING ON TECHNICAL ASPECTS, THE NEED FOR AN OPERATING FREQUENCY, AND THE NECESSITY OF TRAINED PERSONNEL.
Abstract
IN ADDITION TO THE NON-AVAILABILITY OF RADIO FREQUENCIES, SEVERAL OTHER REQUIREMENTS LIMIT THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THIS SYSTEM. THESE CONCERN THE MAXIMUM PERMISSABLE PHYSICAL SIZE OF THE TRANSMITTER PACKAGE, THE DESIGN OF THE ANTENNA, AND A DETERMINATION OF HOW MUCH POWER IS NEEDED TO TRANSMIT THE SIGNAL THE REQUIRED DISTANCE TO THE RECEIVER. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT ALTHOUGH AN EFFECTIVE RADIO BEACON TAIL DOES HAVE A PLACE AS A TECHNICAL AID IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, MINIATURE TRACKING SYSTEMS ARE, AT PRESENT, DIFFICULT TO BUILD AND TO OPERATE.
