THE FRENCH JUSTICE DEPARTMENT INTRODUCES THE NEW COMMITTEE FOR THE COORDINATION OF CRIMINOLOGICAL RESEARCH.
Abstract
THE COMMITTEE, AN ORGANIZATION OF APPROXIMATELY 40 CRIMINOLOGICAL, JUDICIAL, AND SOCIOLOGICAL EXPERTS, WAS FOUNDED IN 1968 TO ENCOURAGE THE STUDY OF CRIMINOLOGY IN FRANCE. ITS CONSTITUTION SPELLS OUT THE FOLLOWING GOALS: (1) TO SURVEY THE MEANS OF CRIMINOLOGICAL RESEARCH PRESENTLY AVAILABLE IN FRANCE; (2) TO ESTABLISH A DIRECTORY OF COMPLETED, CURRENT, AND PLANNED RESEARCH PROJECTS; (3) TO ORGANIZE A REGULAR EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION BETWEEN RESEARCHERS; (4) TO PROMOTE RESEARCH IN INSUFFICIENTLY EXPLORED AREAS; AND (5) TO EVALUATE GOVERNMENT-SPONSORED RESEARCH PROJECTS. THE COMMITTEE IS DIVIDED INTO FOUR SUBCOMMITTEES. THE GOALS OF THE FIRST SUBCOMMITTEE (ON BASIC AND CONTINUED EDUCATION) INCLUDE MODEL EDUCATION PROGRAMS, AN ASSESSMENT OF REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS, AND ASSISTANCE IN OBTAINING SUCH MATERIALS. THE SECOND SUBCOMMITTEE ISSUES AN INFORMATION BULLETIN REGARDING VARIOUS RESEARCH PROGRAMS IN PROGRESS. THE THIRD SUBCOMMITTEE, IN CHARGE OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS, SPONSORS A CRIMINOLOGICAL EXCHANGE WITH FRENCH CANADA, PROMOTES RELATIONS TO SIMILAR INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS, AND ADVISES FRENCH CRIMINOLOGISTS ON INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS. FINALLY, THE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SUBCOMMITTEE LISTS IN A BROCHURE THE NAMES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THE VARIOUS PRIZES, GRANTS, AND SCHOLARSHIPS MADE AVAILABLE BY THE PROGRAM TO FRENCH CRIMINOLOGISTS, AND PROVIDES THE CONSTITUTION OF THE COMMITTEE AND THE NAMES AND ADDRESSES OF ITS MEMBERS. --IN FRENCH.
