ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE MINNEAPOLIS, MINN., POLICE DEPARTMENT DURING 1977 ARE REVIEWED, AND STATISTICAL DATA ARE PRESENTED IN THIS ANNUAL REPORT.
Abstract
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT CONTINUED TO WORK TOWARD PREVIOUSLY ESTABLISHED OBJECTIVES DURING THE YEAR, AND MANY POSITIVE ACHIEVEMENTS WERE NOTED. PROGRESS WAS MADE IN THE DEPARTMENT'S UTILIZATION OF SPACE ALLOCATION, THE CONSOLIDATION OF RECORDS, AND THE INSTALLATION OF COMPUTER-AIDED DISPATCH SYSTEM IN THE COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION. PLANS WERE FINALIZED FOR THE INSTALLATION OF AN AUTOMATED LATENT FINGERPRINT IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM. MORE EFFECTIVE DEPLOYMENT OF DEPARTMENT VEHICLES WAS INSTITUTED WHEREIN THE ASSIGNMENT OF EQUIPMENT WAS MADE TO SPECIFIC DIVISION AND UNIT COMMANDERS. APPROPRIATE PARKING AREAS WERE DEVELOPED TO ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR MOTOR POOL PERSONNEL. THIS REDUCED THE NUMBER OF SQUADS AND TOTAL MILES DRIVEN. EQUIPMENT WAS PURCHASED IN AN EFFORT TO BEGIN AN AUDIOVISUAL STUDIO IN THE COURTHOUSE COMPLEX, THEREBY PROVIDING INSERVICE TRAINING TO ALL PERSONNEL AT A SINGLE LOCATION. THE DEPARTMENT CONTINUED TO PARTICIPATE IN SEVERAL GRANT PROGRAMS, INCLUDING THE ORGANIZED CRIME INTELLIGENCE UNIT AND CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION ANALYSIS. STATISTICAL DATA ON PERSONNEL SALARIES, THE TOTAL NUMBER OF OFFENSES, ADULT ARRESTS, JUVENILE ARRESTS, NARCOTICS AND VICE ARRESTS, LICENSE INSPECTION ACTIVITIES, STOLEN/ABANDONED PROPERTY AND EVIDENCE UNIT ACTIVITIES, POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS, TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS, AND VEHICLE THEFTS ARE PRESENTED. AN ORGANIZATIONAL CHART OF THE DEPARTMENT IS PROVIDED. (DEP)
