DURING THIS WORKING MEETING FOR REPRESENTATIVES FROM ALL SEGMENTS OF MINNESOTA'S CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, 23 WORKSHOPS WERE HELD TO DISCUSS NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION RECOMMENDATIONS. THE SESSIONS ARE SUMMARIZED.
Abstract
THE DISCUSSIONS ARE ORGANIZED AROUND THE EIGHT CATEGORIES OF THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE STANDARDS AND GOALS: COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION; COURT PROCESSES; INSTITUTIONAL AND COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS; JUVENILE JUSTICE, DETECTION, DETERRENCE, AND APPREHENSION; PRETRIAL SERVICES AND PROCEDURES; MANPOWER TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT; AND PLANNING, RESEARCH, AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS. EACH WORKSHOP REPORT CONTAINS A LIST OF THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION STANDARDS REVIEWED AT THE WORKSHOP, A SUMMARY OF THE DISCUSSION, AND THE RECOMMENDATIONS MADE BY THE PARTICIPANTS. IN ALL, THE 23 WORKSHOPS DISCUSSED 415 STANDARDS. SOME WERE ACCEPTED WITHOUT COMMENT, SOME HAVE ALREADY BEEN IMPLEMENTED IN MINNESOTA, SOME ELICITED LIVELY DEBATE, AND SOME ARE PRESENTED IN REWRITTEN FORM. (GLR)
